Introducing the AI Chat Panel: Build Dashboard Mockups by Describing Them

September 22, 2026

Mockko now has an AI chat panel built into the dashboard builder. Describe the dashboard you want and it lays out a Power BI-style mockup on your canvas. Then keep talking to it — “make this a bar chart”, “remove the KPI top left”, “add a filter for region” — and it edits what’s there instead of starting from scratch.

What the AI chat panel does

The panel lives on the right side of the builder, next to your canvas. It does two jobs:

  • Build a whole dashboard from a description. Tell it who the dashboard is for and what it should answer, and it generates a page of visuals — KPI cards, charts, tables — laid out and ready to review.
  • Make targeted edits to what’s already there. Ask it to add a visual, change a chart type, rename a title, or delete something. Changes appear on the canvas immediately, and everything stays editable by hand.

Your conversation is saved with the project, so you can close the tab and pick up the same thread later.

How to use it

  1. Open a project in Mockko (or create a new one).
  2. Open the AI Assistant panel.
  3. Describe the dashboard you need and press Enter.
  4. Review what it built, then send follow-up messages to adjust it.

Each message uses AI credits. The badge next to the panel title shows how many you have left.

Prompts that work well

The more context you give, the closer the first draft lands. A few examples:

Starting a dashboard

  • “Build a sales dashboard for regional managers: revenue, orders, average order value, and margin, with a monthly trend and a breakdown by region.”
  • “An HR overview for leadership showing headcount, attrition, time to hire, and open roles by department.”
  • “A support operations dashboard: ticket volume, first response time, CSAT, and backlog by priority.”

Editing what’s there

  • “Make the donut chart a bar chart.”
  • “Delete the KPI card in the top left.”
  • “Add a date slicer across the top.”
  • “Rename ‘Revenue by month’ to ‘Monthly revenue trend’.”

Tip: name the visual you want changed by its title — “Sales by region” — so the assistant knows exactly which one you mean.

Where it fits in a BI workflow

The slowest part of dashboard work usually isn’t building the report — it’s agreeing on what should be in it. The chat panel speeds up that early loop:

  • Before a requirements meeting, generate a first draft so stakeholders react to something concrete instead of a blank page.
  • During a review, make changes live as feedback comes in (“can we see this by quarter instead?”) rather than taking notes and following up days later.
  • After sign-off, hand the approved mockup to whoever builds the real report in Power BI, so the layout and metrics are settled before anyone writes DAX.

If you’re new to mockups, our guides on dashboard wireframe best practices and presenting a mockup to stakeholders pair well with this feature.

Try it

The AI chat panel is live for all Mockko accounts today. Open Mockko and describe your next dashboard.
